Velettrica’s innovative technology consists of a multifunction propeller with related electrical command and control system.

Energy efficiency is the priority for each element of the propulsion system.

Velettrica is an italian innovative start-up born in 2021 from the dream of entrepreneur and sailor Roberto Baffigo who experienced how to sail full green during holidays with his family.

Its mission is to develop highly energy efficient propulsion systems, powered mainly by renewable sources.

Velettrica has grown together with Roberto’s passion for the sea and over the course of many miles has welcomed on board Italian partners, consultants and professionals, experts in different fields who have helped to ensure that the dream could become a concrete reality.

Velettrica’s innovative technology consists of a multifunction propeller with electronic control system, designed with a new biomimetic approach.

It is based on the study of alternatives to commercial propulsion systems and the search for maximum balance with the environment.

Energy efficiency is the priority for each element of the propulsion system.

A single propeller, not only for propulsion, but also to recover maximum energy when the boat is moved by the force of the wind.

The embryonic engine-propeller technology was installed by Roberto on a sailboat and tested, for over 3000 nautical miles, both with technical tests for data collection, and field tests with long holidays.

Those who really “certified” the validity of the idea were family and friends, and above all the amazement of all the sailors who saw them set sail with very little wind thanks to the help of the “invisible” electrical system while all the other boats smoked noisily.

This technology transitioned to Velettrica, were the Team developed it and built a scale prototype complete with all the innovative features.

Tests were carried out in the INM Towing tank (C.N.R.) and the C-PED laboratory at ROMATRE University – Department of Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Aeronautical Technologies.

All the innovative features are subject of an Italian and of an international patent application.

Thanks to the data collected on the prototype, it was possible to optimize every component and build the new 25Kw Sail-pod ready for series production.

Velettrica’s R&D are aimed at applying this technology to new sailing cargo ships and the emerging sector of VTOL aircraft for the future urban transport.
